Film Production Plans & A Day in Promišten

Woke up today around 8am. Felt good to sleep in a bit. Had a banana & some pastry for breakfast, then a sit down shower (explained in Day 2), and we are ready to explore more of this little region of Croatia.

We called our driver, Goran, again for a ride to Trogir. Today we met up with a Croatian film producer, Alex, who has driven from Zagreb ,which is about 3-1/2 hrs away. He is meeting with Suni to discuss a film she is preparing to shoot, most of which will be filmed in Croatia. It is so important when filming outside your country to enlist the talent and connections of a local film producer. They are able to obtain permits, vehicles, and even extras within their own country that would be difficult or impossible to secure as a foreigner. They are an excellent mediator for local governments as well, and can prevent a complete stall on film production that may happen without the proper connections.

He was a very friendly gentleman who enjoyed telling stories and hearing all about Suni's film. He had many suggestions about locations, music, and timing of the shoot. He had even asked around and found an Indian chef that has agreed to be employed during the making of the film for the Indian crew and cast. That way they will always have food that they enjoy (and the Bollywood stars will be happy), unlike the times that they had to eat local food that was so bland to them and their tastes. Suni felt very good about the meeting, and senses that Alex will be an asset to the film production as he guides her and the crew in preparation for the filming, which she plans to do in September 2011.

After meeting with Alex, we walked over to the castle, which is at the point of the harbor, to take pictures.

I especially wanted to get pictures of the sail cruise ship anchored in the mouth of the bay. I had never seen such a huge sailboat!


Then we called for Goran to pick us up and drive us to Primošten.

Primošten is about 30 kilometers (20 miles) northwest up the coast from Trogir, and it is also a harbor town. We arrived there around 2pm, and immediately went to the first restaurant we came upon. Literally, we walked inside the city walls

saw a restaurant (the view above is from our table), and said, "This looks good!" So we were very fortunate that it really was good.

After we ordered, the bar man brought us sparkling water (it is the same to them as here where the waiter brings us water) and bread with a fish spread that was served in shells.

It was delicious, and reminded me of a very smooth tuna spread, but our waiter didn't speak English, so we didn't find out what it was made of.

For our meal, Suni ordered the grilled fish (so fun to eat the area specialty at different places),

and I ordered the seafood risotto.
And then we shared. Very tasty and filling!

Then we walked around the island, taking in the beautiful sights along the water


Then sat at a café for coffee (an espresso for Suni, and a "white coffee" for me)
As we sipped our coffees and people-watched, two dogs came along to entertain us. As I watched them interact, I realized they resembled my two dogs at home the way they played together. One dog was the pest, the other tolerated. They cracked me up.

We called our driver and he picked us up around 4:15. While we waited for him to come, we checked out the other side of the island
We stopped on the way home in Trogir to pick up pizza, then back to chill before going to sleep. We will pack in the morning, then go to Nicole and Gordon's for breakfast.
